All Idaho results below are unofficial. Counties canvass and the state certifies later this month.

LOCAL (North Idaho) #

Kootenai Buries Prop 1: Two to One Against - All 74 Precincts In Confirmed
  • Kootenai County voted No on Prop 1, the abortion initiative, 50,558 to 25,613, or 66.37% against, with all 74 precincts counted. Confirmed.
  • That is a wider No margin than the state as a whole, which rejected it about 56% to 44%.
  • Source: CdA Press, Nov 4
  • Why it matters: Boise argued the case, North Idaho settled it. When the out-of-state money said Idaho was ready to flip, the Panhandle answered with a two-to-one wall.
Bonner County: Election Night Said "Upset" - The Final Count Said Herndon, Sauter and Rasor Confirmed
  • The Daily Bee's 1 a.m. story, built on about 7,084 early and absentee ballots, had independent Steve Johnson leading Sen. Scott Herndon 57.6% to 42.4%, Democrat Karen Matthee ahead of Jane Sauter, and independent Kathryn Larson ahead of Rep. Cornel Rasor. Confirmed (as an early count).
  • With every precinct in, the state results site shows Herndon winning District 1 with 14,838 votes (57.27%) to Johnson's 11,069 across Bonner and Boundary. Bonner's completed count has Sauter at 64.4% and Rasor at 61.5%. Sauter's campaign is claiming all three seats. Confirmed (unofficial results).
  • Republican Steve Smith won the Bonner Commission District 1 seat 67.2% to 32.8% over independent Fred Arn. Turnout was 70% of registered voters.
  • Source: Idaho results, Senate District 1 · Bonner County results · Bonner County Daily Bee, Nov 4
  • Why it matters: The early mail ballots told one story and the people who showed up told another. Anyone who went to bed on the "independents surge" headline woke up to a conservative sweep.
Kootenai Voters to the County: Don't Run the Bus Confirmed
  • On an advisory question, 38,530 Kootenai voters (57%+) said the county should not manage Citylink, the free bus system, against 28,756 who said yes. The vote is not binding. Confirmed.
  • Commissioner Bruce Mattare put the question on the ballot in August. Commissioner Leslie Duncan warned the result could be used "to bully and intimidate cities into a joint powers agreement."
  • The county budgeted about $65,000 for Citylink in FY2025 and about $3,700 in FY2026. The system runs mainly on Federal Transit Administration and Idaho Transportation Department grants.
  • Source: CdA Press, Nov 4
  • Why it matters: A bus line that lives on federal grants is a federal program with a local paint job. Voters just told the courthouse to get out of that business. Now watch whether the commission listens.
Kootenai's GOP Incumbents Go Eight for Eight Confirmed
  • Republican incumbents won all eight contested Kootenai legislative races. Margins ranged from about 59% (Price over Hayes) to 77% (Okuniewicz over Seguin, 19,374 votes). Confirmed.
  • Barbieri, Bjerke, Mendive and Wisniewski each took roughly 75% or better. Toews and Alfieri each won with about 60%.
  • Source: CdA Press, Nov 4
  • Why it matters: Blue wave nationally, not a ripple here. The county's delegation goes back to Boise with a mandate, and the question is whether they spend it fighting the governor or getting along with him.
Levies: CdA Schools Get $30M a Year - Spirit Lake Fire and Sandpoint's Sales Tax Come Up Short Confirmed
  • Coeur d'Alene schools' two-year supplemental levy of $30.25 million a year passed 58.16% (20,984 to 15,096). It replaces a $25 million levy and runs about $110 per $100,000 of taxable value. Post Falls' $6.7 million levy, which funds school resource officers, passed 10,045 to 8,236. Kootenai, Plummer-Worley and St. Maries levies passed, as did Northern Lakes Fire's $4.5 million. Confirmed.
  • Spirit Lake Fire's permanent override, raising its levy to $785,000 a year, failed. It needed two-thirds and got about 56% per the CdA Press.
  • In Bonner, Sandpoint's 1% local option sales tax through 2036 got 52.13% and needed 60%, so it fails. Dover's 12% short-term lodging tax passed with 70.7%. Westside Fire's two-year levy passed.
  • Source: CdA Press, Nov 4 · Bonner County results
  • Why it matters: Families keep getting asked to pay more on the homestead every two years. Voters said yes to the schools and the cops, and no to anything permanent. That's a tax line worth remembering.

Prop 1 Is Dead: Idaho Says No to Abortion on Demand - And the Bells Ring This Morning Confirmed
  • Prop 1 failed statewide, 56.32% No to 43.68% Yes (286,909 yes votes) as of 2:37 a.m. The AP called it at 12:35 a.m. Confirmed.
  • Idahoans United's Melanie Folwell conceded, calling it "a tremendous, frankly gutting, loss." The Yes side raised about $4.9 million. Too Extreme for Idaho raised $4.6 million, including $1.3 million from the LDS Church and the Catholic Diocese of Boise.
  • Bishop Peter Christensen said that if the vote went as hoped, church bells would ring at 9 a.m. today in thanksgiving "for the protection of life."
  • Source: Idaho Capital Sun, Nov 4 · KTVB, Nov 4 · Bishop's message
  • Why it matters: On a night the country swung hard left, Idaho voted for the unborn by 13 points. The Church put money and bell towers behind it and won. That's the Social Kingship of Christ with a vote count attached.
Little Wins a Third Term - With Less Than Six in Ten in a Red State Confirmed
  • Gov. Brad Little won reelection with 369,360 votes (57.3%). Democrat Terri Pickens had 32%, independent John Stegner 7.6%, Libertarian Paul Sand 1.6%, and the Constitution Party's candidate, legally named "Pro-Life," 1.3%. The AP called it at 10:36 p.m. Confirmed.
  • Little: "Idahoans want to keep moving forward." Every statewide GOP incumbent held on: Bedke, Labrador, McGrane, Woolf, Ellsworth and Critchfield.
  • Source: Idaho Capital Sun, Nov 3
  • Why it matters: Prop 1 lost by 13 and Little won by 25, but roughly 43% of Idaho still voted for someone else. Four more years of the Boise establishment, and the Legislature is now the only check worth having.
HJR 4 Crushed: Voters Refuse to Hand the Legislature Sole Power Over Drug Laws Confirmed
  • The constitutional amendment giving only the Legislature power to legalize marijuana and other drugs failed 66.1% to 33.9% (425,809 No). Confirmed.
  • Reclaim Idaho's Luke Mayville called the amendment a power grab.
  • Source: Idaho Capital Sun, Nov 3
  • Why it matters: The same voters who killed Prop 1 also refused to give up the initiative power. Conservatives who wrote this one should notice: Idahoans want the drug laws tough and the people's veto intact.
English Is Idaho's Official Language - HJR 6 Passes With About 59% Confirmed
  • HJR 6 passed with about 58.9%. It adds to the constitution that "except as required by federal law, English shall be used in all public proceedings," documents, instruction and other public acts. Confirmed.
  • Idaho's Hispanic population is about 13% and grew 25% in a decade. About 11% of Idahoans speak a language other than English at home. Bonner County backed it 72%.
  • Source: Idaho Capital Sun, Nov 3 · Bonner County results
  • Why it matters: A nation is a people with a common tongue. Idaho just wrote that into its constitution while the demographic numbers keep moving. The next fight is whether agencies obey it.
Blue Wave Reaches Boise: Democrats Could Pick Up About Four Seats - Supermajority Holds Confirmed
  • Democrats held 15 of 105 legislative seats going in. The Capital Sun reports they could gain about four, with candidates leading in west Boise's District 15 and in Districts 26 and 29. Republicans keep their supermajority. Confirmed (races still being counted).
  • Sen. Jim Risch won with 56.75% over independent Todd Achilles at 33.5%. Reps. Russ Fulcher and Mike Simpson were reelected.
  • Source: Idaho Capital Sun, Nov 4 · Idaho Capital Sun, Nov 3
  • Why it matters: The losses are in Boise and the Wood River, not here. A slightly bluer Ada County is the Left's beachhead, and it's the ground conservatives keep ceding to developers and transplants.

NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL #

Democrats Take Congress: House and Senate Flip as Voters Punish the GOP Confirmed
  • Democrats won control of both the House and the Senate, the AP reports. Sen. Susan Collins lost in Maine to Troy Jackson. Democrats won races in Georgia, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Iowa, Kansas, Texas and South Carolina. Keisha Lance Bottoms won Georgia's governorship and Gina Hinojosa won in Texas. Confirmed.
  • AP VoteCast: about 6 in 10 voters blame Trump's policies for prices, and about 70% want more checks on the president. Trump said, "I don't view it as a hit on me," and said he'd accept the results.
  • Source: AP via CdA Press, Nov 3 · AP takeaways · AP on probes
  • Why it matters: Two years of subpoenas, vetoes and impeachment talk start in January. The Left didn't win the argument. The Republicans lost it, on prices and a war nobody voted for.
Massie's Verdict: "Put Americans First, Don't Start Another War, Prosecute Sex Traffickers" Confirmed
  • Rep. Thomas Massie, who lost his May primary to Trump-backed Ed Gallrein 55% to 45%, posted that the night was "about holding Republicans accountable for betraying their promises." The post drew more than 150,000 likes overnight. Confirmed (his post).
  • He separately posted that opposing the Iran war "cost me about 10 points on the primary ballot." Reuters reported his primary drew a record $32 million in spending, with heavy pro-Israel group funding.
  • Source: Massie on X · Reuters, May 19
  • Why it matters: The party purged the one man who said the war would cost them, and then it cost them. America First was a winning platform. The donors and the war lobby traded it away.
Iran Gloats Over the Midterms: "Americans Said NO TO WAR" Confirmed
  • Iran's parliament speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf posted that Americans "said NO TO WAR," warning of a "Nightmare" if Washington ignores its voters. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said anyone expecting U.S. policy to change is "seriously mistaken." Confirmed.
  • The U.S. struck Iran's Qeshm Island early Tuesday. Trump called it a "minor attack." A senior Iranian official told Reuters the two sides remain far apart as Qatar mediates. Iran demands lifted oil sanctions, an end to the naval blockade and release of frozen funds before reopening Hormuz.
  • Source: Al Jazeera, Nov 4 · Reuters via Korea Herald, Nov 4 · Ghalibaf on X
  • Why it matters: When Tehran can claim your midterm as its victory, the war has already failed. Gas over $4 and a closed strait is what "peace through strength" bought the GOP.
Abortion Wins on the Ballot Nationwide - Idaho Stands Apart Confirmed
  • The AP reports abortion-rights advocates won in several states and voters rejected Trump's redistricting efforts, across 145 ballot questions in more than three dozen states. Confirmed.
  • Virginia approved Question 1, a constitutional right to "reproductive freedom" including abortion, about 62% to 38%. A Family Foundation legal group is challenging the ballot language, with a hearing Nov. 13.
  • Source: AP, Nov 4 · VPM, Nov 3 · NYT results
  • Why it matters: Same night, same question, opposite answers. Virginia's suburbs wrote abortion into the constitution while Idaho turned it away. Two Americas, and only one of them is having children.
Israel: Election Board Finds No Fraud - Netanyahu's "Stolen Election" Claim Collapses Confirmed
  • Israeli President Isaac Herzog accepted the certified election results after the election commission found no fraud, a blow to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's unsubstantiated claims that Arab-led parties "stole" the vote, the AP reports. Confirmed.
  • Neither Netanyahu nor rival Gadi Eisenkot has a majority.
  • Source: AP via Idaho Press
  • Why it matters: The man whose war helped sink the GOP can't even hold his own country. Washington's hawks keep tying America's fate to a politician his own president just overruled.

U.S. trends as of about 5:45 a.m. PT. Worldwide trends were mostly entertainment; "Thune" was the only U.S. political topic in the worldwide top 20.

  • Election fallout: Republicans, The GOP, RINOs, Congress, Thune, Jeffries, Vance, Rubio, Veto, Resign, #BlueTsunami.
  • States: Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Kansas.
  • Policy: Save Act / Save America Act, DOGE, America First, The Iran.
  • Massie is trending on his "accountability" post and talk of a 2028 third-party run, which is an X story summary, not a confirmed plan.
  • Matt Walsh's comment that he'd prefer an Iranian nuke over "communists" running the country is drawing fire across the right (X story summary).

LEADING IN MAINSTREAM MEDIA #

  • AP: Democrats take full control of Congress; takeaways say voters punished Trump on prices and the war (AP via CdA Press).
  • AP: Abortion rights win and Trump's redistricting loses in ballot measures (AP).
  • Al Jazeera / Reuters / BBC: Iran hails the midterms; BBC Verify found no evidence for the IRGC claim that four tankers were destroyed by mines (BBC).
  • Idaho Capital Sun / KTVB: Prop 1 fails, Little reelected, HJR 4 fails, HJR 6 passes (Capital Sun).
  • CdA Press / Daily Bee: Prop 1 buried in Kootenai, GOP sweep, Citylink advisory, levies; Bee's early "winners undecided" story in District 1 (Bonner Bee).

TOP 3 PICKS FOR WEDNESDAY'S BACKLASH (Nov 4, 3 PM PT) #

  1. The war lost them Congress: Democrats take both chambers, AP's voters blame prices, Tehran gloats, and Massie, purged in May for opposing the war, writes the epitaph. America First won the argument and the party threw it away.
  2. Idaho chose life while Virginia chose abortion: Prop 1 dies 56 to 44 statewide and two to one in Kootenai, with the Church's money and bells behind the No. Same night, Virginia goes the other way. The Church in the public square, and it won.
  3. Four more years of Little, but the people kept their veto: Little's third term at 57%, HJR 4's power grab crushed, English made official, and Bonner's "independent upset" that wasn't. What the right does with the Legislature now.

Bench: Citylink advisory vote. CdA's $30M school levy. Spirit Lake fire levy fails. Sandpoint sales tax fails. Israel's no-fraud ruling. Matt Walsh's Iran nuke comment. Democratic gains in Boise.
